Sketch Hunters Class

Join us for an inspiring outdoor sketching adventure at the Western Museum of Mining & Industry! In this 90-minute class, participants will use special prompt cards to spark creativity and sketch the fascinating sights around the museum’s property. Perfect for families and school-aged children, this hands-on experience encourages observation, imagination, and artistic expression. All materials are included—no prior art experience needed!

  • Date: Wednesday, May 14, 2025
  • Sessions: 10:30 AM–12:00 PM or 1:00 PM–2:30 PM
  • Price: $15 per person
    • (6 and under free with participating adult or sibling over 13)
    • Children under 13 must be accompanied by a participating adult responsible for their safety and behavior.

When I first laid eyes on the piece that had to come home with me, I had a visceral response and felt as though I was taking a trip into my past. Jana had composed 3 Colorado Springs scenes as a trio. These were of the Navaho Hogan, Herman’s Plumbing, and the art deco Garage at North Corona and Columbia. I’m the 5 th generation of my family to grow up in Colorado Springs, you can say the city is definitely in my heart and soul. I knew I could not walk away that night without at least one of them. Jana is a very supportive, encouraging, and knowledgeable teacher. Her teaching style quieted my fears and emboldened me to make art my way, intuitively. Her extensive knowledge and experience in color theory and watercolor technique helped me develop skills I haven't learned in college art class. And there's a saying that emerged throughout the two years I've been in Jana's class, "It's never just about art that you learn in Jana's class."
