New Collection: A Study in Oil and Water

Opposite Directions

Jana L. Bussanich explores the interplay of opposing elements in these mediums and life. Oil and water are often viewed as incompatible and unable to mix. However, in their separation, they still share a relationship. The artist delves into the connection between conflicting forces—vulnerability and resilience, memory and present- through a blend of oil and water-based techniques. This collection reflects a personal journey of harmonizing childhood memories and adult understanding; set against California's redwoods and Pacific coastline, Redwood Lullaby, in particular, reveals that even in contrast, there can be a deep sense of compassion without reconciliation.

Cultivate an Art Practice that Works for You and Your Art

Jana L. Bussanich is an artist, author, and instructor. Her work involves solving puzzles, such as layering watercolor glazes to create a painting, and addressing challenges, like writing a book that enables students to continue teaching themselves to paint during the pandemic or designing a beautiful ceramic watercolor palette, emphasizing that the right tools can make all the difference.

Aesthetics are an immersive experience, connecting the artist to their work, tools, and audience on a deeper level. This belief is integrated into her art, pedagogy, and clever designs, emphasizing function and beauty need never be separated.
